Varroa (Varroa destructor) is a major honey bee pest and a primary contributor to colony losses, alongside pesticide exposure. Metarhizium, a sporulating soil fungus, has the potential to be developed as a biopesticide for Varroa control. WSU Bee Program is studying the effects of Metarhizium on Varroa control and to discover new strains of Metarhizium that are more effective and tolerant to warmer temperatures.
